Abstract

In the recent past, women empowerment came to the centre stage of developmental paradigm. This resulted through their capability to discern and implement the decisions in every aspect. Women are seen playing many roles in family and society and thus they are seen as a trusted agent to bring change through Microfinance institutions (MFI’s). However, Empowerment being a dynamic entity and a change that is in a continuum doesn’t always seems to be achieved by mere access to credit rather by holistic empowerment of Social, economic and political domains. This paper reflects the findings of empirical study conducted in Bishnah Block in Jammu to understand the impact of Microfinance on Women (Empowerment) associated with Jammu and Kashmir Rural Livelihood Mission

Conclusion

As far as empowerment is concerned, a change is definitely witnessed in women’s lives in terms of increased mobility, better communications skills etc but a realization towards own growth can be a better indicator of empowerment. The real problem is not in the theoretical framework but somewhere in the practical implementation and most in existing set up of gender biased society. Thus, this study suggests that there is need to do an assessment in methodology of those who are sent to form groups in different villages and should be more concerned to address the women’s political and economic aspirations as it was observed that comparatively women witnessed more change in social domain, but less in economic and least in political domain
