Abstract

During the presents studies the diversity (fishes, amphibians and turtles) and ecology of Baanganga wetlands, Haridwar has been undertaken. The studies revealed the occurrence of 19 species of fishes, 03 amphibians and 05 species of freshwater turtles in various water bodies of Baanganga wetlands. The Physico-chemical properties of water showed that the habitat is deteriorating. The increased pH in some water bodies, low oxygen in water, high level of chloride ions were noted to be harmful for the habitat of aquatic and semi aquatic fauna. We suggest options for conservation of these wetlands.
