Abstract

The objective of the present study was to estimate the level of heterosis for different agro-morphological, yield attributing and quality traits in oat. A total of 40 F1 hybrids along with parents and standard check PLP-1 were evaluated in RBD with three replications during Rabi 2018-19. Analysis of variance revealed significant differences among parents, genotypes and hybrids for almost all the traits indicating sufficient genetic variability in the material. UPO-130 × JPO-46 showed promising heterosis for green fodder yield and seed yield. HJ-8 × JPO-46 exhibited desirable acid detergent fibre, neutral detergent fibre and highest β-glucan content. Based on mean performance, heterosis studies and resistance to powdery mildew, cross combinations KRR-AK-26 × JPO-46, Kent × JPO-46 and PLP-14 × UPO-30 were found best and can be expected to throw transgressive segregants. Thus, these hybrids can be further evaluated at multilocation trials and commercially exploited through heterosis
